What to do if someone faints:
DO’S | DON’T |
If possible, catch them before they fall. Look for signs of sweating, shaking or pale face. | No slapping or shaking! |
Head of fainter lower than heart—legs raised up. | No eating or drinking until 100% the person is full conscious |
Turn the person’s head to the side so the tongue doesn’t fall in the back of their throat. | Let them get up too quickly—encourage the person to lie down for a few minutes |
Loosen any tight clothing | *Move the person OTHER THAN to move their legs above their head or slowly sit up after regaining consciousness |
Apply (room temperature) moist towels to the person’s neck and face | *Move the person OTHER THAN to move their legs above their head or slowly sit up after regaining consciousness |
If shivering, cover with a blanket or jacket |
